TET Festival

Tet Nguyen Dan, or TET for short means the Feast of the First Day. It is the most important and celebrated Vietnamese Holiday beginning on the Lunar New Year which usually falls at the end of January or beginning of February. During the holiday, a festival is usually held with a variety of activities, foods and performances that culminates on the last weekend of the Lunar New Year Day.

The performances usually include Vietnamese folk dancing, beauty/talent pageants, martial arts exhibitions, playing of drums, dragon dance, fire crackers, and other forms of  entertainment. It is a time for the Vietnamese to celebrate and take pride in their culture.

In Hawaii, VACEF and the Vietnamese-American Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii (VACCH) organizes an annual TET Festival close to the lunar new year. The event includes a fashion show featuring the traditional dress in Vietnam; Vietnamese performers and Vietnamese food. The event is a great opportunity for the Vietnamese in Hawaii to share their culture with the local community. Funds raised through this event benefit the Hue Center for Street Children and VACEF's other humanitarian efforts.
